Why I created this course?
Knowing how to do Social Media Marketing is the skill that literally changed my life. It might sound like an exaggeration but it is not.
In November of 2016, at 21 years old, I flew to Dubai with only 200 Dirhams (that’s 60 USD or 3000 PHP). Life back in the Philippines wasn’t looking like it’s going to improve and it’s the kind of place where you work your ass off for 10 years and still not get ahead in life.
So I borrowed money from a friend. She lent me 30,000 pesos in an envelope with a note at the back saying “I hope this changes your life”.
And it did.
I flew to Dubai on 17th Nov 2016. In my mind, I’m going to find a job, save up, support my family, and maybe somehow build a business so I can come home.
I got my first job 2 months after. However, before I could reach a year in this job, I realized my salary wasn’t enough. So I looked for a new job and found one twice the salary. But the boss was horrible and I quit after 2 months. This went on and on until I realized.. maybe I’m not fit to be an employee? I can’t hold a job.
I was on my 6th job, working as a Marketing Executive when I met Iris. She’s a freelance photographer who spoke the same dialect as me in PH. She told me all about freelancing and how it changed her life in Dubai. She has her own time, no more horrible bosses, and she earned more than her previous fulltime roles.
This opened my mind and with everything I had I poured it all into learning how I can freelance. I stumbled upon a free webinar by 2 freelance travel bloggers and from there I didn’t stop learning from free courses, online videos, and whatever I could get my hands on.
I knew it wouldn’t ever be enough though. So, fearfully, I started looking for clients where I could apply what I knew so far and learn hands on. Not long from then, I signed my first client - a restaurant company with 3 brands under them.
Because I was handling multiple brands - I priced my services well even as a beginner and they paid me more than my corporate salary.
MORE THAN MY CORPORATE SALARY.
You can imagine how this experience was blowing my sense of reality as I was experiencing it.
Then I signed the next client, and the next, and the next. When I started earning more, I invested it all in a coach who taught me even more things about marketing online. This grew my knowledge and confidence. I started my Instagram page, was hired to hold workshops in Dubai about Social Media Marketing, created courses and my online programs, and started building my own Marketing Agency - Born Media.
More than all of this, earning better with this skill has allowed me to support my parents and family. I get to fly home often to see them, and I can now afford to pay and create more memories with them and the people I love — which are the things that truly matters to me.
All of it because I embraced Social Media Marketing.
This skill has allowed me to grow.
This, combined with courage and grit - are what I owe my life to.
